What is a Support?

The term "support" is used to refer to the artifact or monument upon which are siglum or other element may appear. Information about the support is directly relevant to interpretation of the siglum. Thus it is important for the user to furnish all appropriate data about the support: the site or museum from which it comes, its inventory number, details about its nature as an artifact or monument, its date, and pertinent bibliography.After the support is entered, documentation proceeds to the "element" page. There the user enters all pertinent information about each siglum. One support may and often does feature more than one siglum. In each case, the user proceeds from the "support" page.
